I may be prejudice but anything my Anne McCaffrey in the Sci Fi/Fantasy genre is good. And her son and co-author is going to be an inspiration. Together they have breathed a fresh breath of life into the Pern series. Although I am also a big fan of her Freedom series as well.

Hi, Auntie. Not a big fan of sci fi myself, but willing to learn.

Have you ever read Marion Zimmer Bradley? From what I can still remember, her "Darkover" series should be right down the alley of all the Sadie devotees here. And The Mists of Avalon. Well. This is gonna be so sweet.

You know, since I barely have time to read because of school(shame on me! lol), I'm trying to look back at the last book I've read. It's Frank Herbert's "Dune", if I can recall right. Fantastic book.

I am about to start Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series again. He finished 14 books and then died before he could finish the 15th, and last, one. I don't think he even started the actual writing on it. He left his outline and notes with his wife and other family members. His wife was his editor for all the other books. He fully briefed them on how the series was to end, because he knew he had a fatal illness. So anyway, he had said there would only be 1 more book even if it had to be 1500 pages long. Now I think the word is that it will be published in 3 volumes, starting this fall.
It is a fantastic series. I re-read the whole thing every time another book comes out. He has created a whole world, peopled it with unique and wonderful people and creatures and legends, and written an epic of good versus evil that permeates every corner of it. Magic, war, destiny, romance, longing, the fate of all men's souls. Powerful, powerful women. Light versus Shadow. Numerous main characters whose stories all intertwine. Fantastic creatures. Haunting legends.
Ok, ok, I will stop now. Critics are always comparing him (very favorably) to Tolkein. By far the best books of any genre I have ever read. I hope the last one lives up to all the hoopla. RIP, Robert Jordan, and thank you.

I've read a lot of science fiction in my life - started at age ten, so I've been reading it for (REDACTED) years. I read the first Pern books, but lost track some time after they started the new continent. Darkover I read many years ago - interesting series. Some of my favorite books or authors: Anything by Sheri Tepper (my first was "The Gate to Women's Country", which is excellent). Octavia Butler has written some interesting books. Clifford D. Simak's short story "Desertion" still sticks with me, even though it's technically pretty dated now. Amy Thomsen's "The Color of Distance" is good. There are a couple of books in the semi-series. I used to read Piers Anthony, but.... well, let's just say I read the original version of Firefly... and leave it at that. I won't be reading him again. Anyway, I could go on longer, but I think this is enough for now. Faire, thanks for putting this up!
