As y'all may know, this year, thanks to advice and a great deal of hands-on assistance from Auntie, I have begun to garden--sort of--with house plants, petunias, and, outdoors, irises. (Attempts to root and raise roses have not been successful, save possibly in one single case.)
Last night, I repotted my newest acquisition: a wee Hedera helix, aka common ivy. I love ivies of all sorts, but later, in reading about this particular one (other members of the Hedera family include English ivy, which brings visions of ancient castles wreathed in it), I find that, like kudzu, it really COULD take over the world. Should I wake up some AM with it wrapped around my neck, I will suspect it's acting on the potential. Till then it sits quietly in the medium sunlight at my bedroom window, taking in its surroundings and checking out its neighbor, a lovely Vinca major, whom, for the heck of it, I've named Ivanka.
Meanwhile, though, I have in this spring season also begun to read gardening books and magazines, something I never did before. My most recent purchase, made at Lowe's yesterday, speaks to my area of greatest interest: container gardening. Called (duh) Container Gardening: 250 Design Ideas & Step by Step Techniques and with text by the editors and contributors of Fine Gardening magazine, it takes my breath away and inspires lust in my neo-gardener's heart with its pictures and suggestions.
Do any of you have favorite gardening books? If so, what are they?
